— SATURDAY, AUGUST 7

NATURE WALK: Artist Dave Kiehm will lead a bird walk in the Milford State Forest. Kiehm’s two-hour hike, titled ``Summer Birds and Neo-Tropics at Milford State Forest,’’ will begin at 9 a.m. sharp at the DEC warehouse on Kelly Corners Road (about one-half mile south of its intersection with State Land Road). PUPPET SHOW: The Smithy presentS a new installment of ``The Time Traveler’’ at 2 p.m. ``The Time Traveler’’ is an original puppet show that follows the misadventures of Professor Lemeul G. Crotchett as his chronically malfunctioning time machine takes him everywhere but where he intended to go in the first place. The Smithy is located at 55 Pioneer St., Cooperstown. $5 for kids, $3 for adults. Visit smithypioneer. org for info.

BARBECUE: Pierstown Grange will be holding their annual Chicken Barbecue as well as a tag sale on the lawn at the Grange Hall located north of Cooperstown. Take County Route 28 (Pierstown Road) from Route 80 to reach the Pierstown Grange Hall located at 137 Wedderspoon  Hollow Road, Cooperstown.The Chicken Barbecue will be served beginning at 4:30 p.m. Take out service will be available.

Grange members are cooking thirty more halves this year. For information call 264-3069.

BOTTLE DRIVE: Cooperstown Boy Scout Troop 1254 will be having its monthly bottle drive starting at 9 a.m. Residents are asked to place returnable bottles and cans out on the curb or porch for pick up.

ART SHOW: The Fenimore Art Museum its third annual juried art event celebrating the relationship between artists and the landscape _ ``Art by the Lake,’’ from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Museum’s back lawn.

The event offers plein-air painting demonstrations, exhibits of works by contemporary landscape artists, music, educational programs, and samplings of New York State foods and beverages.

MARKET: Cooperstown Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with 30 vendors. Located in Pioneer Alley off 101 Main St, Cooperstown. (607)547-6195.

CONCERT: Mary Doherty, a folk-rock singer/songwriter from Cherry Valley will visit The Smithy at 7 p.m. as part of the on-going Summer Concert Series. Free drink with $10 Admission. The Smithy is at 55 Pioneer St., Cooperstown. Visit smithypioneer. org for info.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 8

CONCERT: The Oneonta Community Concert Band will present its annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic concert at 3 p.m. in the upper pavilion of Wilber Park in Oneonta.

The concert is free and open to the public. Donations are accepted to support the band’s operations. For more information, call 432-7977.

LECTURE: Fenimore Art Museum will welcome back Dr. Christopher Tadgell, internationally recognized historian on architecture and gardens, for another evening lecture at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at the Fenimore Art Museum. The program is free and open to the public.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 12

FAMILY EVENT: Back by popular demand, the dynamic duo of Carol Connolly and Don Darmer will offer ``Dive into Reading!’’ _ an evening of storytelling and song _ at the Cooperstown Village Library at 7 p.m.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 13

CONCERT: Members of Glimmerglass Opera’s Young American Artists Program will perform in a free concert in collaboration with the New York Festival of Song at 1:30 p.m. in the company’s Alice Busch Opera Theater.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 14
