Friday, Oct. 2

SALE — Cooperstown United Methodist Church Rummage Sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The church is located in Cooperstown at 66 Chestnut Street, corner of Glen Avenue.

PROGRAM — The Cherry Valley-Springfield Retirees are sponsoring a disaster preparedness educational presentation, ``Be Red Cross Ready.’’ The American Red Cross will lead the program in the Cherry Valley Community Center at 10 a.m. The focus of the program is being prepared for emergencies at home, school, work and in the community. Light refreshments will be served.

SALE — Christ Episcopal Church in Cooperstown will hold its Fall Rummage Sale on from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a bag sale on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon. The church is located at 69 Fair Street.

Sat., Oct. 3

SALE — United Methodist Church Rummage Sale from 9 a.m. to Noon for the Bag Sale. The church is located in Cooperstown at 66 Chestnut Street, corner of Glen Avenue.

OPEN HOUSE — The Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society will hold its annual Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the DOAS Sanctuary on Franklin Mountain near Oneonta. Hawk watching, a trail walk and a hawk identification workshop for beginners are scheduled. Refreshments will be available at the barn. All are welcome. BIG SQUEEZE — In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard will host Bassett Healthcare’s Mobile Mammography Program. Information regarding breast cancer and early detection through the use of mammography, and about the health benefits of apples will be distributed. The Program staff will be available to answer questions or to schedule appointments.

FARMERS’ MARKET — Cooperstown Farmers’ Market open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market is located behind Key Bank off Main Street in Cooperstown with plenty of free parking in Doubleday Field. For information call 547- 6195.

Sunday, Oct. 4

BREAKFAST — Allyou- can-eat breakfast buffet from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hartwick No. 1 fire hall. Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the Cooperstown Friends of Football. Cost is $7 per person.

MEETING — The Glimmerglass Opera Guild Fall Membership meeting at 3:00 p.m. at Malton Place, the Glimmerglass Opera residence on Route 80, a short distance north of the Opera campus. A meeting of the current Guild Board at 2:00 p.m. will precede the general meeting.

Tuesday, Oct. 6

MEETING — Leatherstocking Stamp Club meeting program, entitled ``What Do You Have,’’ at 7:30 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Home, 28 Pioneer Street, Cooperstown.

The Leatherstocking Stamp Club meets monthly on the first Tuesday of each month at the Tillapaugh Home and encourages anyone with an interest in stamp collecting to attend. For more information contact Ellen Tillapaugh at 547 5646 or at kuchtill@verizon.net.

SUPPER — Smorgasbord at the Roseboom Methodist Church, serving from 4:30 p.m to 7 p.m.

Thurs., Oct. 8

SUPPER— St. Mary’s Church will host a supper at its Parish House on Public Landing Road in Springfield Center.

The supper will be held on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. The stew on egg noodles, green salad, bread and gingerbread cake.

Please bring your own place setting. Suggested Donation of $5.

CLINIC — The Otsego County Department of Health will be holding free rabies vaccinations at the Otego Fire Department from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. For information call 547-4230.

PROGRAM — Terry Fitz-Henry, English Professor Emeritus of Hartwick College, will present a discussion of the poetry of Walt Whitman at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Meeting Room of the Cooperstown Library Building, 22 Main Street. The program will center on ``Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking,’’ discussing the sources of its rhythm and imagery. Copies of the poem will be provided.

This program, a part of the Friends of the Village LIbrary series, is free and open to the public.

Friday, Oct. 9

DANCE — The Doubleday Dancers Western Square Dance Club of Cooperstown will hold their Fall All Plus Danceat the Cooperstown Elementary School from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Cindy Hawley will be the Plus caller. Admission is $10 per couple, payable at the door. For more information call 264-8128.

Sat., Oct. 10

FESTIVAL — Middlefield Fall Festival & Craft Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Old Middlefield Schoolhouse. Crafters and vendors will feature food, jewelry, homemade products, collectibles, seasonal decorations and more. The annual community festival is sponsored by the Town of Middlefield Historical Association. Admission is free.

The Old Middlefield Schoolhouse is located six miles east of Cooperstown in the hamlet of Middlefield on Co. Hwy. 35 off St. Hwy. 166.

Tues.,Oct. 13

MEETING — The Women’s Club of Cooperstown’s monthly meeting will be held at 2 p.m. in the Christ Church Parish House, 69 Fair Street, Cooperstown. Program will be ``Meet Officer Marty of the K-9 Unit’’ presented by Officer Stanley Cade.
