Thurs., Aug. 20

CONCERT — The Cherrypickers will again host the popular Folk Fest for Food to benefit the Cherry Valley Food Bank in the municipal parking lot in downtown Cherry Valley at 7 p.m. Those in attendance are asked to bring a donation of food or money for the food bank. Lawn chairs are welcome. Rain venue is the CV Community Center.

Friday, Aug. 21

MUSIC — The Cooperstown Chamber Music Festival will present Bach: A Musical Offering 7:30 p.m. at the Farmers’ Museum. Festival artists Linda Chesis, flute; Brian Manker, cello; Bradley Brookshire, harpsichord; and Catherine Cho, violin perform works by JS Bach, including the Chaconne and a trio from The Musical Offering. Sat., Aug. 22

WALK — Otsego County Conservation Association walk to Bear Swamp, located in the Cherry Valley State Forest. Participants wishing to meet for breakfast beforehand should meet promptly at 8 a.m. at the Country Kitchen in Roseboom on the corner of State Routes 166 and 165. Others should arrive at the same location at 9 a.m., from which point all will proceed to the trailhead. The length of the walk will be approximately five miles.

FESTIVAL — Cooperstown FarmersÆ Market Annual Zucchini Festival. A $25 gift certificate will be awarded for the largest zucchini. á Zucchinis should be brought to the market no later than 1:00 p.m. to qualify for the judging.áThe Cooperstown Farmers’ Market is located on Pioneer Alley just off Main Street behind the KeyBank building.

GROUP MEETING — The Stitching Witches sewing group will meet at the Fly Creek Fire Hall. Interested individuals are welcome to drop in between á9 a.m.ááandá4 p.m. For more information, call 547-1275.

STAR GAZING — Friends of Glimmerglass State Park will be holding a night of star gazing. The event is free and will begin at 8 p.m. in the Lake View Room with a talk in honor of the International Year of Astronomy, 2009, titled ``Galileo and Two pieces of Glass.’’ The festivities willácontinue until midnight on the beach with a ``Green Laser Tour of the Sky.’’ If weather cooperates, Jupiter will be visible through the telescopes provided by MVAS. Participants will also get a glimpse of People can bring their own telescope or binoculars. Please arrive early andádress for cool weather.

FAIR — The new Buddhist meditation center, Rangjung Yeshe Gomde, in Cooperstown is hosting a Himalayan Cultural Fair that is free and open to the public. The event will be held on both Saturday and Sunday, August 22 and 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. To reach the property, travel north on Rt 80 (Lake Road) out of the Village of Cooperstown, turning left on Glimmerglen Road just past the last section of the Leatherstocking Golf Course. Winterglen is on the right, just past Johnston Road. For further information, contact Jaime Choe at 607- 547-5051.

VARIETY SHOW — Starting at 7:30 p.m. the second annual Pierstown Variety Show will be held at the Pierstown Grange Hall, 137 Wedderspoon Hollow Road, Cooperstown. The show features a variety of entertainment for all ages.

Pie and tea will be served after the show which will last about one hour. There is no charge for the variety show, but donations will be accepted. For information, call 512-669-2620.

Sun., Aug. 23

CELEBRATION — The Town of Middlefield Historical Association will host its 50th anniversary celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Old Middlefield Schoolhouse, special activities will feature school alumni, antique cars and tractors, photo exhibit of the Association’s preservation and community programs, and ice cream and cake. The Schoolhouse is located at 3698 Co. Hwy. 35 off St. Hwy. 166 in the hamlet of Middlefield. For more information about the celebration call (607) 547-9648 or visit www.middlefieldmuseum. org.
