FILM — The Cooperstown Peace Group invites the public to attend a screening of Joseph Stillman’s film ``From Mills River to Babylon and back... The Jimmy Massey Story’’ at 7:30 p.m. in the village meeting room, 22 Main St., Cooperstown.

Friday, July 17

MOVIE— Outdoor movies sponsored by the Friends of Glimmerglass State Park will continue with ``Hotel for Dogs,’’ being featured tonight. Movie begins at 8:30 p.m. at the West Shelter, unless otherwise indicated when arriving to the park. Refreshments will be available.

BREAKFAST — The Middlefield Volunteer Fire Department and EAA Chapter 1070 will host a Fly-In Pancake Breakfast at the Cooperstown/Westville Airport, Route 166, Cooperstown, from 7:30 to 11 a.m. The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, real maple syrup, sausage and beverages. Adults $6.00; children under 12 are $4.00.

BOTTLE DRIVE — Roseboom Historical Association is rescheduling its planned bottle drive at the Association’s meeting hall in Roseboom. Hours will be 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM.

Anyone who cannot make the scheduled dropoff time and has bottles to donate may call 607-264- 3976 or 518-284-2370. MOVING SALE: Corner of River & Church Streets, Cooperstown, from 9 a.m. to Noon.

Antiques and furnitue and a variety of misc. items.

HORSE SHOW — Otsego County 4-H Open Benefit Horse Show at the Otsego County Fairgrounds in Morris. Registration opens at 8:00 a.m.

Over thirty-five classes will be held with many adult classes offered. All youth must be between the ages of 8 and 18 as of January 1, 2009.

The cost is $5 per class and walk/trot riders may show for the day for $20. Contact the Otsego County 4-H office for more information, 607-547-2536, x225 or sac65@cornell.edu.

Sunday, July 19

PROGRAM — Blacksmithing will be featured at the Old Middlefield Schoolhouse Summer Sunday program at 1 p.m. Working at a portable forge, Don Avery, of Otego, will demonstrate his craft. The program, presented by the Town of Middlefield Historical Association, is free and the public is welcome.

The Old Middlefield Schoolhouse is located in the hamlet of Middlefield, Co. Hwy. 35 off St. Hwy. 166, six miles east of Cooperstown. BREAKFAST — Milford Post 1566 American Legion, Auxiliary and Sons of American Legion breakfast buffet from 7 to 11 a.m. The all-you-can-eat buffet is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10-years-old.

The menu will consist of French toast, pancakes, sausage gravy and biscuits, home fries, eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, muffins, coffee, tea and juice. The event is sponsored for the benefit of the American Legion.

BLUES EXPRESS — At 7 p.m. The Cooperstown Blues Express will host the number one R&B;/Motown band in New York’s Capital Region — Solid Smoke. Get on board the ``Soul Train’’ and dance to the music of James Brown, The Temptations, Barry White, Earth, Wind and Fire and more.

Dancing room is limited so reservations are suggested. Tickets are $16 per person and you must be 21 with valid I.D. to ride. Boarding begins at 6 p.m. rain or shine.

HEALTHY MEALS — Learn about sustaining a heart healthy diet and how to prepare great tasting heart healthy meals in a segment of the Bassett Heart Care Institute's ongoing Cardiac Lecture Series.

The event will be held at Bassett Hall Chapel, Beaver St., Cooperstown at 12:30 p.m. To register for this free event, call Laurie Signorelli, L.M.S.W., at 547-3767. Please leave your name, phone number and the number of people in your party.

PARK - The Friends of Glimmerglass State Park is inviting the more mature area residents to explore and become further aware of all the amenities and recreational opportunities of the park for your on-going use. The day will kick off with a complimentary breakfast on the shore of Otsego Lake in the Lake View Room with cheese blintzes and fruit toppings as you enjoy good company and meet new friends in this casual setting. The day will include guest speaker Irene Ekstrom, director of admissions at Otsego Manor and a wagon ride around the park. The event will take place from 9-11 a.m. For everyone 62 and older, there is no charge for park admission or breakfast. All others need to pay admission and breakfast is available at $5 a person. Reservations by July 24 are necessary by either calling the park office at 547-8662 or emailing friendsofglimm erglass@gmail.com .
