THURSDAY, JAN. 28

PRESENTATION: Dr. Gretchen Sullivan Sorin will be speaking at the Cooperstown village library on her doctoral thesis ``Keep Going:á African Americans on the Road in the Era of Jim Crow.’’ Dr. Sullivan Sorin will be discussing why African Americans embraced their personal automobiles for interstate travel in an effort to avoid segregation enforced on public transportation under the Jim Crow laws.

FRIDAY, JAN. 29

EVENT: The sixteenth annual Friends of CCS Music and Art Cabaret Night will heat up the evening from 5 to 9 p.m. at Cooperstown High School. A full lineup of musical entertainment is on tap this year, ranging from a duet by Jacob and Ethan Russell to the other end of the age spectrum, the Not Quite Over the Hill Singers. áRebecca Burke-Sciallo will emcee the evening.

FILM: Cabin Fever Film Series at 7 p.m. January 22: ``The Heiress’’ (NR, 1949) Running time: 115 minutes Location: Fenimore Art Museum Auditorium. The film screenings are free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and patrons should use the main entrances at both locations. Refreshments will be available for purchase. SUNDAY, JAN. 31

EVENT: The SUNY College at Oneonta will offer an opportunity to participate in the Native American game of ``snow snakes’’ at the College Camp off upper East Street in Oneonta from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission to the event is complimentary, and members of the community are invited to attend. DANCE: Otsego Dance Society contradance from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Cooperstown. Dancing will begin at 8 p.m. and continue until 11 p.m. Suggested donation is $8 for adults, $4 for students and teen-agers and free for children 12 and under.
