FRIDAY, JULY 23
PROGRAM: Kinney Memorial Library in Hartwick will celebrate the children’s summer reading program at 6:30 p.m., with a concert by Skip West in the park on Wells Avenue, across from the library. If it rains, the concert will move to the Hartwick Community Center.
MOVIE: Movie Night at Betty & Wilbur Davis State Park will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The movie showing will be located in new Pavilion at the park. Popcorn and drinks will be available to purchase. The movie is free of charge but donations are appreciated. For the movie title and rating, please call the park at 607- 547-8662.
EVENT: Andy Strasberg, author and creator of Fantography will make a presentation at 7 p.m., at the Cooperstown Village Library. The program is free and open to the public.
SUNDAY, JULY 25
WALK: Local historian Dominick Reisen will lead a walking tour of the Middlefield Hamlet Historic District at 1 p.m.á The tour will start at the Middlefield Historical Association headquarters at the District N. 1 Schoolhouse on County Highway 35 in Middlefield Hamlet. Along the tour, Reisen will highlight the sites of various businesses that once made up the Middlefield Crossroads, showing how these crossroad communities could be self sufficient during the 19th century.
He will also speak about the myriad architectural styles found in the hamlet, from Federal to Greek Revival, to Italianate.
This is one in the series of Summer Sunday Programs hosted by the Town of Middlefield Historical Association. These programs are free and open to the public.
MUSIC: As part of their summer musical program, Christ Episcopal Church on River Street in Cooperstown will host an old-fashioned hymn sing at 4 p.m. Organist and Choirmaster, Roberta Rowland-Raybold has planned the eventm, which will be reminiscent of the hymns of childhood that can be remembered from people from all denominations and faiths. Special piano selections from the organist’s repertoire of both published and unpublished hymn arrangements will be interspersed with selections chosen by the audience.

BARBECUE: A Brooks’ chicken barbecue will be held from 3-7 p.m. at the Cooperstown United Methodist Church located at 66 Chestnut St. at the corner of Glen Ave. and Route 28.

WALK: Otsego County Conservation Association nature walk on the Sleeping Lion Trail, uphill and down through the forest at Glimmerglass State Park.
Participants should meet at the parking area next to the westerly pavilion at the base of the hill leading up to Hyde Hall.
This moderately difficult 2-1/2 mile hike is jointly sponsored by OCCA and Friends of Glimmerglass State Park. For more information, call (607) 547-8662.
TUESDAY, JULY 27

WEDNESDAY, JULY 28
MEETING: Hugh Macdougall will present a talk at the Fly Creek Area Historical Society about - Abner Graves: the Man Who Brought Baseball to Cooperstown.
The meeting will be at the Fly Creek Grange on at 7 p.m. This meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
TOUR: Greater Oneonta Historical Society walking tour of historic Riverside Cemetery led by Lynn Bissell, who has written several books on local history.
The tour begins at 7 p.m. at the entrance to the cemetery, behind the First Presbyterian Church at 296 Main Street. There is $2 fee ($1 for GOHS members).
THURSDAY, JULY 29
CONCERT: The Homegrown String Band, a twentyfirst century incarnation of the traditional family band, will be appearing in Oneonta’s free summer concert series held at the Neahwa Park Bandstand adjacent to Hodges Pond, at 7 p.m.
FRIDAY, JULY 30
PRESENTATION: Marilou Trask-Curtin will speak on ``Memories of Main Street Oneonta’’ at the Greater Oneonta Historical Society’s History Center, 183 Main Street, at 6 p.m.
After the talk she will be available for a question and answer period as well as a book signing. Trask-Curtin is an author, screenwriter, playwright, and poet. The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call 432-0960.
