Snow or no snow, there is always a lot to do at the Cooperstown Winter Carnival. It provides the perfect time to get out and fight cabin fever and the winter blues.
The carnival will take on a “British Invasion” theme. Festivities will kick off Friday and continue through the weekend.
As the weekend approaches, we find ourselves looking forward to the events, new and old. A plethora of events are scheduled for young and old, alike.
According the carnival website, The Cooperstown Winter Carnival began in 1967 with the intention of offering a variety of activities for residents and tourists to Cooperstown during the early winter month of February. The site states: “The event brings people out into the cold and gives them a reason to celebrate with their friends, neighbors and visitors. Each year there are new and exciting events, while bringing the same traditions back that people have come to expect.”
We’ve said it before in this space the Thursday before the Winter Carnival, and we’ll say it again this year: Get involved. Pick an event or two and have some fun.
On Saturday, a parade will be held on Main Street starting at 11 a.m.. Then the activities start in earnest, with everything from bowling, home run contests and sled races to eating contests, the Chocolate Lovers’ Festival, dog shows, dances, live music and drink contests.

Also, special thanks go out to all the sponsors that make the event possible. The event could not be such a success for 47 years if it were not for sponsors, and of course the hard work of the carnival committee members.
We also encourage a visit to the TREP$ marketplace while out and about.
TREP$ is an after school entrepreneurship education program where students in sixth- through eighth-grades sell products that they have manufactured and marketed. The program is sponsored by the Cooperstown Parent Teacher Organization and the program is funded by donations from community businesses and organizations.
The marketplace will be open for business at the Cooperstown Middle/High School gymnasium from 1 to 3 p.m.
