Doris J. Oot, 89, died peacefully on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at her home in Milford, where she lived with her daughter, Mary and her family for the past seven years.
She was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Washington, D.C., a daughter of Charles D. and Margueritte E. Joyce. She graduated from Anacostia High School and the Providence Hospital Nursing School.
On March 24, 1951, she married Robert F. Oot in Washington, D.C., and he died on Feb. 25, 2003. Mrs. Oot was a registered nurse and worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital in the Utica area. She worked as a nurse for over 40 years and did volunteer work after retirement.
She was a member of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes and later St. Mary’s Our Lady of the Lake after she moved to her daughter, Mary’s home in Milford.
Doris leaves two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Mark Harmon of Milford, and Margaret and Gary Hayes of Bedford, N.H.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Oot and Carol Robey of Hollis, N.H., Michael and Mia Oot of Caldwell, Texas, Stephen and Carol Oot of Deansboro, and David and Yi-Chyi Wu Oot of San Jose, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, Christopher, Mary Catherine, Robert, Laura, Joseph and Margaret Harmon, Garrison and Christian Hayes, Alec and Nette Oot, Karen Sparks Fuhrmann, Caleb and Rachel, and Natalie and Max Oot; great-grandchildren, Brock, Vlad Fuhrmann.
She also leaves her sister, Evelyn Needles; her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Eileen Joyce; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a son, Richard Arthur and two grandsons, Benjamin Sparks Oot and Michael Austin Oot.
The funeral will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Utica, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Entombment will follow at Calvary Mausoleum.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford.
