Keith Douglas Weir, 94, of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Van Duyn Home & Hospital, with his family at his side. Born in Fowler, he grew up in the Cooperstown area. Doug was the oldest boy of Elial Glenn and Lula Weir’s 13 children.
In 1942, he married Evelyn Morton and shortly after he was drafted into the Army Air Force. While stationed on Guam, he served as an airplane mechanic. In 1957, he moved his family to Syracuse, where he worked for S.J. Groves and Son’s Construction Company until his retirement.
Doug was an avid sports fan and outdoorsman who enjoyed golf, gardening, hunting and fishing. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn; daughter, Sheri; four sisters and seven brothers.
He is survived by his daughter, Jeri Morlock of North Syracuse; grandson, Matthew (Cassandra) Morlock of Liverpool; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Stephen) Scott of Oak Park, Ill.; greatgrandchildren, Nicholas Benedetto, Gwyneth
Morlock and Archer Scott; brother, Carl Weir of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Tillapaugh Funeral Home, 28 Pioneer St., Cooperstown. Services will take place at noon followed by burial in Hartwick Seminary Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY, 990 7th North St., Liverpool, NY 13088. Doug was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather. He was a beloved friend and companion to his many nieces and nephews.
His wisdom and guidance will remain with us forever.
Arrangements have been entrusted to New Comer Funeral Home, North Syracuse and Tillapaugh Funeral Home, Cooperstown.
