Nancy Carol Folts Birdsall

RICHFIELD SPRINGS _ Nancy Carol Folts Birdsall, 70, went to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, Jan. 21, 2012. After a short illness, she passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side. She was born on Sept. 24, 1941, in Montgomery, Ala., daughter of the late Lt. Col. John L. and Karolyn Folts.

Being the daughter of an Air Force officer, Nancy was educated in various places, including Richfield Springs Central School, and was a graduate of Mount Holly High School in Mount Holly, N.J. She continued her education at Syracuse University where she majored in fashion design.

On Dec. 15, 1961, she was united in marriage to Navy Lt. David M. Birdsall in Mount Holly. With Mr. Birdsall being a Naval aviator, they made their home in many places. They moved full-time to Richfield Springs from Pittsford in 1992.

Mrs. Birdsall had worked as an assistant manager for the Hechinger Company in northern Virginia and Rochester. She later worked as an ER Admissions Clerk at Bassett Medical Center until her retirement in 2004.

She was a member of Saint John’s Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs. She was also a member of the Richfield Springs Garden Club, several bridge clubs and was a Glimmerglass Opera Guild volunteer.

To all who knew Nancy, they will never forget a caring, hopeful and gracious lady who enjoyed doing for others while looking for nothing in return. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren.

Surviving besides her devoted husband of 50 years, David; are one son, David M. Birdsall Jr. and his wife, Joni of Sugar Hill, Ga.; a daughter, Diana Fraley and her husband, Dennis of Florence, S.C.; three grandchildren, Paige and Ashley Birdsall and Connor Fraley; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John L. “Bud” Folts Jr. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs.

In lieu of flowers, Nancy would have preferred donations be made to Saint John’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box E, Richfield Springs, NY 13439.
