The Cooperstown Sr. Giants lost, 26-14, to the Oneonta Sr. Yellowjackets in a hard-fought youth football game in Oneonta on Saturday.
Tailback Richie Abbate scored the game’s first touchdown on a three-yard run and then added the extra point moments later to give the Giants a 7-0 lead. The Yellowjackets scored late in the second quarter, making the score 7-7 at the half.
The Yellowjackets then scored three touchdowns before halfback Isaiah Johnson broke a 40-yard run to score the game’s final touchdown. Quarterback Jack Lambert found tight end Jack O’Dell in the back of the end zone for the extra point.
Playing in their final Cooperstown Youth Football game were Jack Lambert, Richie Abbate, Nick Santoro, William Friedman, Isaiah Johnson, Jack O’Dell, Keaton Tsouvas, Brendan Lohan, Andrew Poole, Michael Rudloff, Travis French, Christopher Sacchi and Michael Patryn. Returning to lead the team next year will be Ryan Palmatier, Jackson Rodgers, Hunter Wilfeard and Peter Hockbrueckner.
