Patriots hold off Gilbertsville-Mount Upton with score of 59-53

THE DAILY STAR

A varsity-high 27 points from Kyle Jaquay led host Cherry Valley- Springfield to a 59-53 Tri-Valley League boys basketball victory Monday over Gilbertsville-Mount Upton.

Jaquay shot 10-for-15 from the field, and had six steals and four assists. After G-MU pulled to three points with 40 seconds left, Jaquay went 3-for-4 from the line to seal it. “It was mostly off penetration,” Patriots coach Terry Brant said of Jaquay. “He was getting all the way to the basket and he scored quite few in transition. We really got out in transition.”

Andrew Bosc and Isiah Montgomery had nine points apiece for CV-S, which led, 30-17, at halftime. Montgomery also had nine rebounds. “We played good defense tonight,” Brant said. “We made some good stops and pushed the ball up the floor well.”

Demario Reed scored 17 points to lead the Raiders, who received 11 points from Greg Delaney and 10 from Eddie Ray Cotton. G-MU trailed, 54-45, with 2:32 to play before scoring six straight points. Jaquay stopped the run on a floater in the lane.

Next for CV-S (9-4, 7-2) is a key Tri-Valley League East Division game at Richfield Springs on Monday. The Patriots lead the East by a game-and-a-half over the Indians. “That’ll be a big one,” Brant said.
