COMMENTING ON STORIES:

Fall programming set at Hall of Fame

-- — As the baseball season winds toward its climax, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum has put together a lineup for programming during the last months of 2012.

According to a media release from the Hall of Fame, the museum will honor the longstanding relationship between baseball and the movies, salute the timeless values of character and courage and celebrate the annual fall classic with the popular World Series Gala. The programs give museum visitors the chance to experience baseball’s history at the home of the National Pastime.

The schedule includes:

Family Day: The National Baseball Hall of Fame invites families to a special day at the museum Sept. 22 during Cooperstown’s annual PumpkinFest Weekend. The day will include family-friendly programs and demonstrations as well as hands-on activities throughout the museum all day long. Children 12 and younger receive free admission to the museum.

   Film Festival: The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will celebrate the relationship of baseball and the cinema at the Hall of Fame’s Baseball Film Festival, Sept. 28-30, as the museum honors the tradition of baseball at the movies. Fourteen films, with themes ranging from knuckleball pitchers to Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente to Fenway Park, will be screened over three days, and all films will be shown in the Hall of Fame’s Bullpen Theater or Grandstand Theater. Tickets for the screening of Film Festival entries are free of charge but limited and must be reserved. Admission to the museum is required for films shown during regular Museum hours. Members were able to reserve their tickets beginning Sept. 17, and any remaining seats will be made available to the general public beginning Sept. 24 by calling the membership department at 547-0397 or visiting the membership desk in the museum. Ryno’s Character: As part of its fifth-annual salute to character and courage, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will present Columbus Day weekend programming dedicated to those qualities, highlighted by a “Voices of the Game” event in Cooperstown featuring Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg. Fresh off his second season as the manager of the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs of the International League, Sandberg will share his insights on the game at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in the Hall of Fame’s Grandstand Theater. A ticket is required for the event and costs $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12. Tickets were available to participants in the Hall of Fame’s membership program beginning Sept. 17 by calling 547-0397, and any remaining tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday, Oct. 1.

     World Series Gala: Visitors can enjoy the excitement of the World Series on the big screen at the Hall of Fame during one of the favorite annual family events. The entertaining evening on Oct. 27 will include refreshments, trivia, raffles and prizes during a live broadcast of game three of the World Series from the park of the American League champion. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12 and will be available to participants in the Hall of Fame’s membership program starting Oct. 1. Any remaining seats will go on sale to non-members starting Oct. 22.
