---- — The Cooperstown varsity girls volleyball team have been busy playing at four events in six days.
Over the weekend the team participated in a tournament at South Lewis with a pool that consisted of Whitesboro, Rome Free Academy, South Jefferson and South Lewis.
CCS beat South Lewis 25-17, 28-16; South Jefferson, 25-22, 25-22; RFA, 25-19, 25-19; and lost to Whitesboro, 25-19, 25-19. After pool play, the Lady Redskins were 6 and 2, good enough to earn a No. 2 seed.
The team went on to play the No. 1 seed of the other pool, Oneida, in the semifinal. That pool also included Morrisville-Eaton, Proctor and General Brown.
Whitesboro played Canastota in the other semifinal. CCS was able to defeat Oneida 19-25, 28-26, 15-12. However, the team was defeated by Whitesboro two games to one (Scores: 19-25, 25-23, 11-15).
Last week, according to coach Rich Jantzi, his team went 2-for-1. The Lady Redskins lost to Morrisville-Eaton on Monday 3-to-0 (13-25, 19-25, 13-25) then defeated Little Falls 3-to-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-17) on Wednesday and St. Joe’s, which was Oppenheim-Ephrata 3-to-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-9, 25-18) on Friday.
