CCS wrestling team competes in championships

Cooperstown teammates Michael Boyle and Jacob Miller had runner-up finishes in the Center State Conference Championships on Saturday at Adirondack.

Boyle followed a quarterfinal pin of Herkimer’s Shane Briggs in 2:49 with a 4-1 semifinal decision over Dolgeville’s Ben Nastovski to reach the 113-pound championship. Boyle’s run ended when Ilion’s Laken Cook won the title with a 1-minute pin.

Miller also won his quarterfinal by pin  stopping Adirondack’s Joshua Phillips in 2:42  and defeated a Dolgeville wrestler in his semifinal as he advanced to the 138-pound final with a 15-8 decision. Miller fell by technical fall, 21-4, to Canastota’s Anthony Finocchiaro in their final.

Jacob Russell (99 pounds) and Kevin Segit (195) placed fourth for the Redskins, who scored 54 points to finish eighth out of 13 teams. Canastota won the team title with 204.5 points, followed by Dolgeville (167) and Adirondack (154).

Cooperstown will compete in the Section Three Class D Championships at 9 a.m. this Saturday at Sandy Creek.

The SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College will host the overall Section Three Championships at 9 a.m. Feb. 11.
