Baseball Hall of Fame releases calendar of events

With the crack of bats and sounds of the ballpark beginning to return to Arizona and Florida this week organizers are getting geared up for another season at the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

According to a media release, the HOF has planned an events schedule filled with history makers and family classics.

“The Hall of Fame will pay tribute to baseball’s legendary stars and create a lifetime of memories with family-friendly events in 2012,” the release said.

The action will get under way this month and continues throughout the year. As always, the museum’s calendar is highlighted by the annual Induction Weekend, which will feature the enshrinement of Barry Larkin and Ron Santo. The induction ceremony is set for July 22 at the Clark Sports Center.

The 2012 Hall of Fame calendar includes:

A Celebration of Black History Month – Feb. 20-24: The Hall of Fame will host a week’s worth of programs celebrating Black History Month.

Family Day – March 31: The National Baseball Hall of Fame invites families to help us in kick off the baseball season in style with a special day at the museum.

Opening Day – April 5: Welcome the return of Baseball at the Hall of Fame with televised live games.

Youth Baseball Week – April 9-15: Celebrate Spring Break at the Hall of Fame.

Hall of Fame Birthday – June 12: You’re invited to celebrate the Hall of Fame’s 73rd birthday!

Hall of Fame Classic Weekend – June 15-17: Six Hall of Famers and 20 other former major league players take to Doubleday Field for a game of legendary stars in this annual Father’s Day Weekend event, with the Hall of Fame Classic scheduled for Saturday, June 16.

America’s Birthday – July 4: Celebrate America’s birthday and America’s National Pastime together at the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

All-Star Gala – July 10: Join the excitement and entertainment as the Hall of Fame hosts the annual All-Star Game Gala.

Hall of Fame Weekend – July 20-23: The spotlight of the baseball world shines on Cooperstown as Barry Larkin and Ron Santo are enshrined as the Class of 2012.

Family Day – Sept. 22: The National Baseball Hall of Fame invites families to a special day at the museum during Cooperstown’s annual PumpkinFest Weekend.

Baseball Film Festival – Sept. 28-30: The Festival is a showcase of newly-released films of any genre with a baseball focus.

Character and Courage Weekend – Oct. 5-7: Held during the autumn splendor of Columbus Day Weekend in Central New York.

World Series Gala – Oct. 27: Enjoy the excitement of the Fall Classic on the big screen at the Hall of Fame in one of our favorite annual family events.

The evening is sure to entertain with refreshments, trivia, raffles, prizes and, of course, live coverage of a to-bedetermined game of the 2012 World Series.
