Tri-Valley finals up in the air

STAFF REPORT

Rain has put a damper on the championship schedules for baseball and softball. The Tri-Valley League finals may be pushed back as division titles remain up for grabs.

Tuesday’s steady downpour wiped out everything on the local high school schedule, including games that could decide the division championships.

Oneonta State is scheduled to host the T-V baseball and softball championship game Friday, but the East Division titles are still yet to be determined. Cherry Valley Springfield (10-4, 10-2) was supposed to play baseball at Milford (12-2, 9-2) on Tuesday, but rain pushed their meeting to today.

Milford played Worcester on Wednesday, but scores were not in by deadline. A victory would mean a winner-take-all meeting for the East title. A loss would mean MCS would have to beat CV-S today to set up an East Division tiebreaker that would push Friday’s crossover back.

A CV-S victory today will put the defending T-V champion Patriots in the crossover against West Division winner Edmeston (12-3, 12-1).

Tuesday’s softball game between CV-S and host Milford also was rescheduled for today. Milford (9-4, 7-4) played a make-up game  at Worcester at 4 p.m. Wednesdayand needed a win to keep pace with Schenevus (9-6, 8-4) in the race for the East title. Scores were not available before deadline.

Schenevus was supposed to host Richfield Springs on Tuesday, but their meeting was moved to today as well. Should Milford and Schenevus win their remaining games, the two will be headed for an East tiebreaker that would force Friday’s crossover against West winner Franklin (12-0, 11-0) to a later date. “I’m sure it will be a playoff (in the event of a tie),” Milford coach Jim Weir said Tuesday night. “It always has been in the past.”

Also rained out Tuesday was a T-V softball doubleheader between Franklin and host Edmeston. The teams were scheduled to meet for one game at Edmeston on Wednesday and play again at Franklin today.
