Cooperstown’s soccer season has been over for a couple of months now, but the awards haven’t ended. Redskins’ coach Frank Miosek has been named Center State Conference coach of the year, while junior mid-fielder Michael Rowley won co-player of the year.

“It is a great honor,” said Miosek, “but you don’t get an honor like that without having a lot of great kids.”

To prove Miosek’s point, eight Cooperstown players were named to the CSC All-Star team. In addition to Rowley, Jay Davine, Kevin Huggins, Ben Bauer and Will Derouin were first-team All Stars. Wes Lippitt, Harrison Clinton and Sam Bowen were named second-team all stars. Rowley shared player of the year honors with Ilion’s Dan Ward.

“Michael is intense, that’s for sure,” Miosek said. “He hates to lose.” Rowley scored 29 goals this season, including an overtime gamewinner against Manlius-Pebble Hills to send the Redskins to the Section III Class C finals.

Cooperstown lost in the finals in overtime to Tully, its only loss of the season, to finish 17-1-1. They were perfect in the CSC at 12-0.

Huggins, the Redskins’ senior goalkeeper, set a school record with 12 shutouts on the season, including one in the playoffs.

Although Rowley will be back next season, he and his team will have a challenge on their hands matching this year’s success. Cooperstown had12 seniors on the team, including all seven of the other CSC All-Stars.
