THE COOPERSTOWN CRIER
Cooperstown Youth Baseball has issued an invitation to the public to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for its new facility on Wells Avenue in the hamlet of Hartwick at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15.
Earlier this year, CYB and the town of Hartwick reached an agreement that will allow the organization to begin construction of its new baseball and softball facility at the Wells Avenue site after being forced to give up its facility to make way for the Gateway Project at the south end of the village.
At its June meeting, the Hartwick town board agreed to sign a lease with CYB, concluding deliberations between the two parties, according to CYB President Dr. David Borgstrom.
“We are glad we are able to provide a place for CYB and all local children to call home for baseball and softball,” Hartwick Town Supervisor Dave Butler said. “The town welcomes them to play ball.”
According to Borgstrom, CYB looks forward to working closely with the town of Hartwick in creating a complex that all children of the community can enjoy for years to come. CYB’s vision includes two fields and a clubhouse in addition to the already existing Hartwick community field.
“We look forward to many fun-filled nights of baseball and softball in Hartwick. From the beginning, the Town of Hartwick has been an enthusiastic supporter of this project and committed to see it succeed,” Borgstrom wrote in an email. “I look forward to our continued collaboration on this new facility”
