Glimmerglass Festival single tickets now on sale

Single tickets are on sale now to all 2012 mainstage productions and special events at The Glimmerglass Festival, according to a media release from Glimmerglass.

The 2012 Festival mainstage productions include Verdi’s “Aida,” Willson’s “The Music Man,” Lully’s “Armide” and Kurt Weill and Maxwell Anderson’s “Lost in the Stars.” The productions will run in rotation July 7 through Aug. 25 in the Alice Busch Opera Theater.

Tickets start at $26 and youth tickets (ages 6-18) start at $10 when accompanied by an adult.

The mainstage productions will be supplemented by special performances, concerts and lectures throughout the season.

Eric Owens, who will perform the roles of Amonasro in “Aida” and Stephen Kumalo in “Lost in the Stars,” will pay tribute to great American singer and bandleader Billy Eckstine on July 27. Deborah Voigt, who performed the role of Annie Oakley in last summer’s “Annie Get Your Gun,” returns for a recital of works by Strauss, Verdi and more on August 5. Dolora Zajick joins members of the Young Artists Program on Aug. 10 to perform selections from “Maid of Orleans,” “Il Trovatore,”“Macbeth” and more. Tickets for these concerts range from $25 to $75 and $10 for youths.

ShowTalk, the Festival’s lecture series with visiting scholars and artists, features an extended schedule this year, with presentations ranging from Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg speaking on trials in opera to “Aida” conductor Nader Abbassi speaking on Arab music today. Tickets are $25 and $10 for youths.

Glimmerglass Young Artists, singers involved in the company’s apprentice program, will present a fully staged performance of “Aida”, at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 17 in the Alice Busch Opera Theater. Tickets are $25 and $10 for youths.

Subscriptions are still on sale in two-, three-, and four-show packages. Pick your seats for the 2012 Glimmerglass Festival at www.glimmerglass.org or call the company’s Box Office at 547-2255, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Glimmerglass’s Alice Busch Opera Theater is located at 7300 State Highway 80, north of Cooperstown.
