COOPERSTOWN —
The Cooperstown Rotary Club’s annual AppleFest, a two day celebration during New York’s peak apple harvest, will be held this year from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sept. 15 and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, on the grounds of Fly Creek Cider Mill, according to a media release from the club..
The Rotary tent, staffed by volunteer members of the Cooperstown Rotary Club, local college students and many others, will feature a raffle and silent auction of items donated by local businesses, face and pumpkin painting for children, a coloring contest for grades pre-K to grade 4, and a chance to build your own scarecrow.
As part of Cooperstown Rotary Club’s literacy drive, all children visiting the storytelling tent will receive a free book.
The popular kids corner will include a bouncy house and new this year, a dime toss.
“A small town carnival favorite, the dime toss is sure to be a new favorite at AppleFest, so bring your piggy bank full of dimes for your shot at some great prizes, “ Angie Erway, chairperson of this event, said in the release. “Coming to AppleFest is a great way to have fun and support the work of Rotary. AppleFest is our club’s biggest fundraiser and last year we raised over $20,000, the most ever.”
Cooperstown Rotary’s Apple Baking Contest, a huge hit last year, will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at AppleFest.
Awards and ribbons will given for “Yummiest”, “Most apple-ing (visual)” and “Best Use of the Apple (most original)”.
There will also be an exhibit of tractors on display during the weekend.
The Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard is located in the hamlet of Fly Creek, three miles northwest of Cooperstown.

The open-air market famous at Grateful Dead shows is expected come to Cooperstown on July 13 and 14 for the Furthur concert at Doubleday Field on Sunday, July 14.
