Springfield to host 98th Fourth of July Parade and Celebration

The 98th annual Springfield  Fourth of July Parade will be held Wednesday July 4, at 11 a.m. The theme for this year’s parade is “Celebrate”. It will be presided over by Grand Marshals Florence Brown and Frank VanAuken, and announced by Fred Culbert.

A celebration at the Springfield Community Center following the parade will include:

• musical entertainment by the Cooperstown Community Band and by Fritz Henry,

• Brooks barbecued chicken (contact Dan at 264-8012 to pre-order for groups of 10 or more),

• Quilt Show in the Community Center gymnasium,

• burgers, hot dogs, popcorn, pie, and drinks by the Presbyterian Church of East Springfield,

• arcade of games, face-painting, snow cones, and cotton candy by Springfield Boy Scouts,

• cake walk by the Springfield Library Association,

• raffle (first prize $500.00) by the Springfield Fire Dept.,

• Adirondack Chair Raffle by the CVS Endowment Fund,

• raffle of Glimmerglass Opera tickets and more by the Springfield 4th of July Committee,

• pink lemonade stand by the Order of the Eastern Star,

• pen house and display by the Springfield Historical Society,

• 2012 “Celebrate” T-shirts sold by the Springfield 4th of July Committee (T-shirts are available now at Country Memories and Tom & Kelly’s Convenience Corner, both in Springfield Center. All proceeds go to the committee to provide parade prizes and entertainment.)

• face painting by the Springfield Baptist Church

• photos with Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam

• basket raffle by St. Mary’s Episcopal Church The Springfield Community Center is located at 137 County Hwy 29A in Springfield Center. Free parking will be available for the parade and celebration at this location and at Ryerson Field on Public Landing Road.
