Series announces lineup for 43rd season

The Sweetback Sisters will kick off the Cooperstown Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at a new venue, Brewery Ommengang. The Sweetback Sisters are self-described as a “renegade retro band that mixes up country, swing and honky ton.”

Joy Kills Sorrow will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at The Otesaga Resort Hotel. Joy Kills Sorrow is hard to categorize, according to a media release.

A string quintet mixed with a bluegrass band with some folk troubadour and indie-rock hipsters thrown in. Each member of JKS was conservatory trained, in jazz or classical music.

Annie & the Hedonist will play at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, at The Otesaga Resort Hotel. Annie & the Hedonists perform a mix of acoustic folk, blues, standards, bluegrass, gospel, and early jazz. One reviewer described leader Annie Rosen’s vocals as “sultry, blues-tinged and honeyvoiced.”

BritishMania will be offered at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 8, at The Otesaga Resort Hotel. To usher in Winter Carnival 2013, BritishMania will take attendees back to the experience of seeing The Beatles, from the live early years at The Cavern Club in Liverpool to the hard-to-reproduce “studio years” of Sgt. Pepper, according to a media release.

Steel Wheels will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at The Otesaga Resort Hotel. The Steel Wheels will close out the series with blues, bluegrass, old time singalongs, and foot-stompin’ fiddle tunes.
