The Otsego County Soil and Water Conservation District is reaching out to landowners with erosion problems resulting from downed trees in their streams and landowners who are interested in planting trees along their stream banks.
The SWCD is working on funding that would address both of these scenarios at no cost to the landowner.
They believe these efforts will lead to less erosion of our soils as well as less turbidityin our local water, and will provide valuable habitat to wildlife.
According to District Manager Scott Fickbohm, although it looks promising, funding for the program is not guaranteed at this time.
The SWCD is interested in compiling a list of potential projects to estimate workload and to formulate a budget.

Public hearing gives one last look at proposed budget
A handful of people gathered in the Cooperstown Middle/High School cafeteria for a public hearing on the district’s proposed budget. The district is proposing a $16,772,080 spending plan for the 2012-13 school year. Although this is a decrease of $140,907 (.83 percent), it was upped by nearly $58,000 before being adopted on April 4 by the school board.
