The Cooperstown Police
Department will be offering
a RAD Self-Defense
Class for women during
the first week of March. The
class will be held Monday
through Wednesday, March
1 through 3 and 3/3/10 from
6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each night
in the Cooperstown High
School gymnasium.
RAD is the nationally
known Rape Aggression
Defense System, a program
of realistic self-defense
tactics and techniques for
women. The R.A.D. System is
a comprehensive, womenonly
course that begins with
awareness, prevention, risk
reduction and risk avoidance,
and progresses to the
basics of hands-on defense
training.
This course has its
foundations in education
and awareness. It includes
lecture, discussion and selfdefense
techniques, suitable
for teens and women of all
ages and abilities.
Mother and daughter
teams are especially encouraged
to attend.
This course will be taught
by two nationally certified
R.A.D. instructors.
Each student will be
provided with a workbook
and reference manual. In lieu
of a course fee, Cooperstown
Police are requesting that
students make a donation
to the Cooperstown Food
Bank ($25 is recommended,
but students unable to make
a donation are welcome).
Students can get more information
or register by calling
(607) 267-7658.
Students under 18 will
need signed consent from a
parent or guardian. Space is
limited.’
