Cooperstown Candlelight Ghost Tours
will begin its sixth full season of operation
on Thursday, April 1, with an Opening
Night tour beginning at 8 p.m.
Organizer, Bruce Markusen, says this
promises to be an especially intriguing
season of tours, given the ongoing
investigation by the SyFy Channel’s
Ghost Hunters. The Ghost Hunters are
investigating The Otesaga Resort Hotel
and the National Baseball Hall of Fame
and Museum for paranormal activity.
For the third consecutive year, spring
and summer ghost tours will be offered
seven nights a week, from April through
August. Each nightly tour will begin at
8 p.m., departing from Pioneer Park. As
always, reservations are required and
can be made by calling 547-8070, or by
e-mailing bmarkusen@stny.rr.com.
This year’s tours will feature stories
about the Hall of Fame, the
Christ Episcopal Church Churchyard,
and the famed house known as Greencrest,
in addition to other favorite old
sites. Sunday night tours will spotlight
The Otesaga. The tours will also feature
the history of the village of Cooperstown,
including the exploits of prominent
citizens like Judge William Cooper
and author James Fenimore Cooper.
Tour prices will remain the same: $15
for adult and $10 for children (ages6-12).
Children 5 and under are free. Group
rates are available. All tours depart from
Pioneer Park, located on the corner of
Main and Pioneer streets. The ghost
tours are intended to provide both
tourists and local residents with an
opportunity to learn more about the
village’s rich history of ghostly sightings
and haunted houses, including Byberry
Cottage, theskeleton at the River Street
Wall, the ghosts of Pomeroy Place, and
The Otesaga.
The Cooperstown Candlelight Ghost
Tours season will continue in September
and October, with fall ghost tours
being offered on Monday, Wednesday,
Friday, and Sunday nights. The
September-October fall tours will
take place at 7 p.m.
