The Cooperstown Class
of 1959 held their 50th reunion
September 18th to
20th, 2009. Sixty people,
including 34 members of
the class, attended the
weekend. Class members
came from Hawaii, California,
Montana, Texas and
all along the eastern seaboard.
On Friday morning, 13
people played golf at the
Otsego Golf Course in
Springfield. Bill Burgess
won the longest drive and
Colaine Young Johnson
won closest to the pin.
Friday evening, the class
held an old fashioned picnic
at the Cornfield in Fly
Creek with hot dogs, hamburgers
and sausage cooked
by Bill Barrett from the
class of `58.
During the evening music
was played by a DJ.
About 70 people attended
with former teacher Robert
Lettis and his wife as
guests.
Saturday evening was a
cocktail hour and dinner
held at the Hotel Otesaga.
The highlight of the evening
was an Elvis Presley
impersonator, Donny Romines,
from Schenectady,
who performed following
the dinner.
``Elvis’’ sang and gyrated
to many of the old Elvis
songs, delighting the ``girls
from ’59’’ by singing to them
as he put a scarf around
their neck or gave them a
teddy bear. This was followed
by a class photo and
adjournment to the Hawkeye
lounge for more stories
and laughter.
On Sunday, many gathered
at TJ’s, on Main St.,
for breakfast before saying
their goodbyes while looking
forward to their next
reunion.
