Village Historic Preservation awards announced

The Village of Cooperstown Historic Preservation and Architectural Review Board will hold an awards ceremony and reception next week to honor the 2007-2009 recipients of the Village Historic Preservation awards.

A total of 15 awards will be presented in four categories. The Historic Preservation awards are intended to recognize and commend individuals and organizations who, through the stewardship of their properties, have significantly contributed to the protection, enhancement, and perpetuation of the Historic and Architectural District, which encompasses the entire Village, explained Teresa Drerup, chair of the Historic Preservation and Architectural Review Board.

The four award categories and the recipients include:

• Restoration: 7 Eagle Street, Charles Baker & Cari Fuertes; 73 Elm Street, William & Janet Rigby; 197 Main Street, War Monument at Otsego County Courthouse.

• New Construction: 197 Main Street, Verizon cell site & accessory building at Otsego County Courthouse

• Signage: 31 Chestnut Street, Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce; 108 Chestnut Street, Stewarts; 24 Glen Avenue, Leatherstocking FCU.

• Rehabilitation: 25 Chestnut Street, Village Cobbler; 64 Chestnut Street, Peter & Jennifer Landers; 73 Chestnut Street, Bank of Cooperstown; 81 Chestnut Street, Charles & Kathleen Roth Knull; 34-36 Elm Street, Richard Bird & Deborah Geurtze; 41 Lake Street, Lisbeth McCoy; 133 Lake Street, The Farmers Museum; 17 River Street, owner requests anonymity

The public is invited to attend the ceremony and reception on Tuesday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in the village meeting room, 22 Main Street.
